Botox Q & A

What is Botox?

Botox is an injectable medication used to smooth out wrinkles, crow’s feet, and fine lines. It’s made using the bacterium Clostridium botulinum. Once Botox enters your body, it blocks nerve signals from reaching the muscles in your face. That causes your muscles to relax, minimizing visible wrinkles and imperfections.

Aside from an anti-aging treatment, Botox can also ease pain caused by migraine headaches and TMJ disorders. The relief provided by Botox isn’t permanent, but it can last for several months at a time.

Am I a good candidate for Botox?

To determine if you’re a good candidate for Botox, All Star Dental Care provides an in-office consultation. During this appointment, your provider physically examines your face and skin, reviews your medical history, and asks about your lifestyle and goals for treatment. They also ask if you have any allergies or underlying medical conditions.

If you suffer from TMJ issues or jaw clenching, your provider conducts an oral exam and takes a series of X-rays to observe the alignment of your teeth and jaws.

Following your consultation, All Star Dental Care develops a custom treatment plan. Sometimes, your provider performs injections on the same day as your consultation. Other times, they schedule an appointment for a later time.

What areas can Botox treat?

Botox is incredibly versatile and capable of addressing wrinkles and fine lines in different areas of the face, such as on the forehead, around the eyes, and between the eyebrows (glabellar region).

If you’re getting Botox to address migraine headaches or TMJ pain, your provider might administer injections near your temples or along your jawline.

How many Botox injections do I need for anti-aging?

The number of Botox injections you need to address wrinkles depends on their location and your goals for treatment. Usually, All Star Dental Care recommends three injections to treat crow’s feet, five injections to treat wrinkles between the eyebrows, and five injections to treat forehead lines.

No two patients are exactly alike. All Star Dental Care tailors treatment to your health history, desires, and budget.

Are the results of Botox permanent?

The wrinkle-defying effects of Botox aren’t permanent, but they do last about four to six months. Once wrinkles and fine lines begin to form across your face, you know it’s time to schedule a follow-up appointment. Regular maintenance can keep your skin looking vibrant and youthful for years to come.

If you get Botox to treat headaches or jaw pain, you also need to schedule follow-up appointments as needed. Your provider can make recommendations based on your health history and symptoms.
